Are you also fed up with pregnancy health guidelines?

August 312012

Probably I’m not alone who is also fed up with crazy pregnancy health guidelines. There are so much controversies in the world of pregnancy. It’s hard to decide what to believe in. Can a pregnant woman eat salmon or can you go to the gym as many times as before your pregnancy? How much a pregnant woman can eat? There are so many questions to answer.

You want the best for your unborn baby and we also want the best for ourselves. It’s really important to face these questions but who can answer them. I came across this great article on and I want to share it with you because it’s worth to read.

Let’s face it: We’d all be hard-pressed to find a pregnant woman who doesn’t want what’s best for their unborn baby. And I think we’d all agree that we try to take the best care of ourselves when pregnant – even more so than any other time in our lives.

ut it seems no one, not even the researchers and doctors, can agree on what’s best. The conflicting health guidelines are enough to completely stress you out. But don’t stress out: It’s bad for the baby!

So what are we left to do? I say laugh. I don’t think there’s been a study yet that says laughing is bad…

Yoga is Good For You!
Except for those Dangerous Poses! Yoga can seriously help alleviate prenatal stress, and is a favorite form of exercise among many expecting moms. But be careful with what poses you do, because not all are safe

Top 5 pregnancy and baby controversies

August 292012

When you’re pregnant there are many controversies that surround us. It’s hard to decide what to do because there are so many things that you don’t know or haven’t had any experience with babies before. Lets check out what to do and what not to do when you’re an expecting mom.

Bottle Vs. Breast
Breast milk is “best” for the baby on a strict ingredients-only analysis. But what’s best for your baby includes more than a list of ingredients. Life for a new mother is complex and only you can know what’s going to be “best” for all involved.

Epidural Vs. No Epidural An epidural is just one way to cope with pain in labor. And all women need to cope in labor. The stereotype is that if you go without one you’re a martyr, but women who don’t get epidurals have tons of other coping tools in play. We also hear that getting an epidural is wimpy but that doesn’t make sense– you’re still giving birth

Breastfeeding vs formula feeding

August 132012

It’s always a big question what to do when you’re a new mom. Breastfeeding vs formula feeding – which is the better? There ‘re moms who aren’t able to breastfeed their babies. It’s not their fault, they just can’t.  In my opinion we shouldn’t judge each other because of this. I’m a new mom and I do breastfeed my baby however it’s not enough for him that’s why I also bottle feed him. There’s nothing wrong with it. The most important thing is that the baby should grow and be healthy. It doesn’t really matter which option we choose when our baby is fed properly.  Please read this great article about this very important topic. It’s pretty controversial and everybody has its own opinion about it:

There has been a lot of controversy lately in the BF’ing world, from the very famous Time magazine cover to Mayor Bloomberg’s decision to hide formula in hospitals. Here is the thing: they are YOUR boobs. Not the lactation specialists’. Not the pediatricians’. Not your husband’s. Not your mother-in-law’s. They are yours. Therefore, it’s YOUR choice what you do with them. No one should be making the decision for you. My heart hurts for those who feel the pressure to breastfeed, especially those who just can’t do it and for those who are miserable because they feel like if they don’t breastfeed, they are a bad mother. Well, let me tell you – you are far from it. You should never feel the need to Google “am I a failure for not breastfeeding?” because you aren’t.

I have 4 girls that are perfectly healthy and none of them were breastfed. Sure, they may have been for a day or so. And sure, we tried to make it work. But, it just didn’t; each time, it was a different reason. Yet they are no different than my many friends who breastfed. Yes, I understand breast milk is the best choice when it comes to feeding your baby; however, I don’t think it is right at all for a mother to feel pressure to breastfeed. It isn’t only “right” to breastfeed your child. You just need to feed them. Period. Breastfeeding, bottle feeding – whatever way you can. It can be very hard for a new, first-time mom to feel the pressure to breastfeed and if for some reason she can’t, even after all the help she gets, she still can’t do it. How do you think that mother would feel? I know I would feel awful, which is why I am totally against pressuring breastfeeding. If you can do it, more power to you. But don’t make those around you who can’t feel like bad moms because their milk supply may be insufficient or the newborn can’t tolerate her milk for health reasons.

I also meet a new mom in the hospital and she couldn’t breastfeed her baby. She felt guilty which she shouldn’t. Read this article and please tell me what’s your opinion.

Predict your baby’s gender

January 252012

I have to confess I’m as curious about my baby’s gender as other moms. Unfortunately I don’t know it for sure but it’s fun to try i.e the Chinese Lunar Calendar. You have to enter your birthday and the month of conception then just click on the big Go button. Of course you can’t be sure about this and it’s advisable to wait until you doctor confirms it but it’s fun to try. I have to emphasize it’s only for entertainment purposes. I won’t tell you what’s my prediction – it’s a surprise :)

Let’s find out how does it work:

By crossing the month a child was conceived with the age of the mother at conception, it is purported that you can determine the birth of your unborn child. For instance, a 30-year-old woman who conceived in January would give birth to a boy, according to this calendar. Remember, the Chinese Lunar Calendar is based on the month the baby is conceived and not when the baby was or will be born. The calendar is also designed to work only for women with calendar ages between 16 and 43.

Healthy snacks for pregnant women

January 242012

As I’m in my second trimester healthy snacks are becoming more and more important in my and my baby’s life. I try to eat healthy anyway, I really like fruits and vegetables and now I try to stick to healthy snacks too. My favorite site – – collected the 10 healthy snacks during pregnancy. They are healthy, filling and good for the mom and for the baby too.

Katie writes that multigrain crackers are her favorite snacks:

It’s quick, easy, portable and depending upon the types of cheese and crackers you buy, it’ll get you some healthy carbs, lots of fiber and help you with protein and calcium. Plus, it’s just plain delicious.

or if you like something sweet during pregnancy you can try fruit smoothies – I really love them too:

I have to confess, I was never a smoothie person before pregnancy. But my love of fruit has gotten even greater with this baby. My normal smoothies are made of orange juice, greek yogurt and frozen fruit. My favorite combination is OJ, yogurt, frozen mango and a few frozen strawberries. Warning, if you add too many frozen berries, you’re going to have a seed overload. Play around with fruits, juices and yogurts you like, you won’t be sorry.

Sometimes I go for fresh fruit such as banana. They are really delicious too.
