Vacuum seal emergency diapers and clothes

May 142013

This is an absolutely brilliant idea. When you have a child you always have to carry loads of stuff. So why not vacuum seal them? It will save you space in your diaper bag. It’s from one of my favorite sites – Parenthacks:

Here’s a hack I came up with for an emergency diaper I had stashed in my messenger bag that goes everywhere: vacuum sealer + backup diaper. Packs down tiny, keeps it from wearing out while floating around the bottom of a bag, etc. Works with wipes too!

Have you heard about the Mommy Bullies?

April 32013

I did because actually one of my friend is turned out to be one. She is older than me, just a couple of years and she also has a son who is 4 month older than mine. She is a nice girl but she knows everything better and honestly she goes on my nerves sometimes. Her way is the only way ie. she knows the best how to feed  toddler, how to raise one. She is a real mommy bully. I was actually really happy when I read this article because it helps you how to handle these types of women:

I thought motherhood was a higher level of sisterhood. A sisterhood that was full of support, not criticism. And as I have matured and experienced “life” as a woman and a mother, I have learned plenty about the “mommy bullies.” Here are some suggestions to keep in mind the next time you feel like you are under fire:

1. All of us mommies are trying to do the best that we can raising our babies to be amazing individuals.

2. There is always going to be a subject about parenting that we don’t know about. Stay humble and try not to feel so frazzled. Chances are when another mommy makes it seem like they know everything about mommyhood, they are really totally insecure about whether they’re doing a good enough job.

3. When you feel like you are getting ganged up on, walk away. Stay strong to what you believe in and trust that you know what is best for your family.

4. Do more research. I have learned the most by listening to what topics other mommies speak about and then going home and researching for myself. Come to find out what one mommy claims is the most amazing preschool, really might not be what you think is amazing!

5. You might have to go a little bit out of your way to stay in touch, but when you connect with another mommy don’t lose track of them. Be outgoing and schedule more playdates individually.

Treating your baby’s colds

September 202012

It’s awful when your baby is ill. Babies can’t tell what’s the problem and moms are always so worried when the little one doesn’t feel well. Now that the weather is turning cold your baby can get the cold. How we can protect them? What kind of medicines can we use? There’re many questions to answer. The good news is that Babycenter can help you with this great article:

Is it okay to give my baby over-the-counter (OTC) cold medicine?

Most experts say no. The American Academy of Pediatrics advises doctors to tell their patients that OTC cough and cold medicines aren’t effective in children younger than 6 and can sometimes have dangerous side effects. You may want to ask your child’s doctor what he suggests.

Keep in mind that cough and cold medications won’t shorten the course of your child’s cold or prevent further complications such as ear infections or sinus infections.

If your baby is feverish, ask your doctor about giving her infant acetaminophen or ibuprofen.

Never give your baby aspirin as it makes her more susceptible to Reye’s syndrome, a rare but potentially fatal disease.

Fortunately there are always alternative treatments that can help your child:

Adding a few drops of menthol, eucalyptus, or pine oil to a vaporizer or bath may help your baby feel less congested, says Kathi Kemper, professor of pediatrics, public health sciences, and family medicine at Wake Forest University School of Medicine and author of The Holistic Pediatrician. (You can get these oils at most natural food stores.) If your baby is at least 6 months old, a weak, lukewarm solution of chamomile tea can also be soothing.

How to make easy baby food on the go

June 212012

I guess you also ended up in situations when you didn’t have a baby spoon, you didn’t have a bib or a high chair to feed your baby properly. In these time Parent Hacks idea come in very handy. A very practical mom will explain how to turn a whole banana into a no-mess baby meal:

I have to give total credit to my husband on this one. On more than one occasion, we’ve found ourselves out and about with no feeding instruments for our 9-month-old son. No spoon, no bib, no pureed food. One time, my hubby devised an emergency solution that we’re now using almost any time we leave the house.

Predict your baby’s gender

January 252012

I have to confess I’m as curious about my baby’s gender as other moms. Unfortunately I don’t know it for sure but it’s fun to try i.e the Chinese Lunar Calendar. You have to enter your birthday and the month of conception then just click on the big Go button. Of course you can’t be sure about this and it’s advisable to wait until you doctor confirms it but it’s fun to try. I have to emphasize it’s only for entertainment purposes. I won’t tell you what’s my prediction – it’s a surprise :)

Let’s find out how does it work:

By crossing the month a child was conceived with the age of the mother at conception, it is purported that you can determine the birth of your unborn child. For instance, a 30-year-old woman who conceived in January would give birth to a boy, according to this calendar. Remember, the Chinese Lunar Calendar is based on the month the baby is conceived and not when the baby was or will be born. The calendar is also designed to work only for women with calendar ages between 16 and 43.
